Beauty Daredevil: Pink Eyeshadow
In our Beauty Daredevil series, we convince an intrepid reporter to try an experiment that we're too chicken to test ourselves. For this installment, contributor Jane Kirby gets pink eye in a chic way.
As the legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland once said: “Pink is the navy blue of India”. Pink, to me is an irresistible color. A light shade can give a subtle prettiness. And if the pigment intensity is hot, it can convey extremity. Since I usually reserve pink for lips and cheeks, trying pink on the eyes was a challenge.
I started with the usual makeup routine of using moisturizer, foundation and eyeshadow primer. After moisturizing, I used Clarins Beauty Flash Balm with Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch cream - this smoothes fine wrinkles and lines. It helps prevent cover up from creasing.
· I started the look by using Nars Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Trash, a purple shade, all over my eyelid.
· With my fingers, I put a light blotted application of lipstick under my eyebrows. I used Victoria’s Secret Sheer Lip Color Duo in Double Date and Sephora Rouge Cream in Jealous 07 Peachy Pink.
· Over this, I applied light pink eyeshadow from Dior’s Tailleur Bar Palette.
· Afterwards, I heavily applied MAC Satin Powder Blush in Passionately Tempted - a very hot magenta pink - from my eyelid up to the beginning of my eyebrows.
For the rest of the face, I applied foundation, powder and used a matte bronzer powder all over, which offset the intensity of the strong color. Then I applied a light dusting of Make Up For Ever HD High Definition Powder and reapplied the all over bronzer powder.
Last, I added a touch of pink blush to the apples of the cheeks. For lipstick, I wore Wet n Wild lipstick in #521A.
Voilà! Here's my pink eye makeup look, sans looking as if I have pink eye.
