Dior’s Next-Level Liner is a New Take on the Cat Eye

By Klaudia Tirico / May 9, 2014

This week marked the first time we saw Peter Philips do his thing as Christian Dior Makeup’s new Creative and Image Director, and naturally, he did not disappoint. (We didn’t have a single doubt.) Philips recently made the switch from creative director of makeup at Chanel, and his work at his new employer's Cruise 2015 show proves that Dior makeup is in great hands.

The show was held in Brooklyn and attendees were given a ride via a very special Dior ferry (did you expect anything less?). Once everyone took their seats, designer Raf Simons debuted his collection – a whopping 66 looks featuring geometric and floral prints in graphic hues. The hair was tucked behind the models' ears with a simple off-center part, a perfect frame for Philips’ next-level eyeliner, mega lashes, and peachy skin and lips.

"I wanted to create makeup that was both light and sophisticated, in keeping with the Cruise spirit, fluid clothing and the summery atmosphere,” said Philips. “The common theme in this collection is in fact the color black, which links all the looks together. Raf Simons and I wanted the make-up to be graphic and elegant, to accentuate both the beauty of the silhouettes, and this omnipresent black color."

Get the Look:

For the eyelid, Philips used Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow in Bar #056 (out in August). Using Dior Addict It-Line Eye-Liner in It-Black ($31), he gave the models a fairly dramatic wing on the top lash line, followed by another wing starting from the center of the lower lash line, with a slight flick at the end. To keep the eyes open and doll-like, he did not connect the wings, but kept a nice space between them. He finished it off with mega lashes, using either Dior Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara ($28.50) or Dior Addict It-Lash Mascara ($26), depending on the model. The cheeks received a veil of DiorBlush Vibrant Color Powder Blush in My Rose ($42) starting at the apple and moving up the cheekbone. The pouts were lined with Rouge Dior Contour Lipliner in Grege ($30) and filled in with Rouge Dior Lipstick in Tromp d’Oeil ($34), giving lips a plump effect with a light wash of color. The nails also received a peachy hue – Dior Vernis in Muguet ($25).
