Buy Now: A Floral Scent for People Who Don’t Like Florals
It’s rare that I find a fragrance I like enough to wear all day, and I’m pretty sure the reason is that I’m not a big fan of florals. To my nose, classic flowery scents smell too feminine, too “perfume-like” and too, well, basic for me to get excited about adding them to my collection.
But Diptyque’s new eau de toilette, Florabellio, is making me reconsider my stance. In case it’s not obvious from the name, Florabellio is composed of floral notes, but its character is totally different from the mass produced scents that give me flower fatigue. The Paris fragrance house describes its latest composition as a “landscape,” and smelling it is more like going on a nature walk than strolling through a garden full of blooms. It opens with seaside-evoking notes of salt spray and sea fennel, and has apple blossom, apricot and osmanthus as its heart. Roasted coffee and toasted sesame give the scent an underlying bitterness that keeps things interesting. Where other floral scents make me feel like I’m standing in a perfume soaked Sephora, this one makes me feel like I’m outside surrounded by spring’s blooming trees and wild plants.
Diptyque Florabellio is available in 50 mL ($90) and 100 mL ($125) sizes at diptyqueparis.com.
