Conditioning agent that helps improve hair sheen, manageability and control of frizz.
Lactase Image
Lactase
An enzyme that is needed to digest lactose (sugar found in milk products)
Lactic Acid
A colorless, water-soluble liquid produced during muscle contraction. It can be derived from fermented vegetables and kelp. It is used in skincare products to help exfoliate, refine, and clear skin.
Lactose
A complex sugar found in milk and milk products. Lactose must be broken down by lactase into the simple sugars and glucose to be absorbed.
Laneth-10 Acetate
The polyethylene glycol ether of lanolin alcohol. It is an emulsifier use in hair and skincare products.

Lanolin
Lanolin is extracted from the wax found on sheep's wool. It is an excellent emollient, moisturizer, skin lubricant and protectant, and it's capable of absorbing water equal to 50% of its weight. Iit's a common ingredient in skincare and haircare products.
Lanolin Alcohols
Distilled and deodorized solid with excellent emolliency to skin and hair.
L-Ascorbic Acid
The scientific name for vitamin C. It is an antioxidant and stimulates collagen synthesis in skin cells. It can also have a skin-lightening effect in certain preparations.
Lauramide DEA
A high foaming cleansing agent for shampoos, bubble baths, etc.
Laureth-23
The polyethylene glycol ether of lauryl alcohol. It is an emulsifier.
Lauroamphocarboxyglycinate
Mild, foaming organic compound used as a skin surface-cleansing agent for shampoos and facial cleansers.
Lavender Image

An aromatic herb touted for its aromatherapeutic benefits. Lavender extract and oil is used in all types of products and treatments to help relieve stress, diminish tension and induce relaxation. Inhaling the natural fragrance of lavender is also said to promote natural sleep.
LED
First researched by NASA for use in the U.S. Space Program, LED light therapy can counteract the effects of aging and improve skin metabolism for healthy looking skin.

Lemongrass Oil
Cleansing and purifying to the skin, the oil is used for its excellent antiseptic properties. The oil also helps normalize oil production and reduce breakouts. It is high in vitamin A and can be found in bath and facial herb blends.
Lichenification
Thickening of the epidermis. Lichenified skin looks dry and leathery, and the normal skin markings are exaggerated. Repeated rubbing and scratching can produce lichenification.

Great facial steaming herb used to open and soothe the pores so that other herbs may cleanse and medicate them.
Liniment
A topical liquid (alcohol, oil or water preparation) containing therapeutic agents for topical application.
Lipid
Generally, these are organic products found in living systems that are insoluble in water, like fats. Cell membranes are made of lipids. We lose lipids as we age, which is why skin becomes less supple. 
Liposomes
Microscopic sacs that act like a delivery system, depositing product ingredients into the skin. When the liposomes “melt,” ingredients, such as moisturizers, are released. 
Lubricant
An oil or oil rich creme or lotion designed to grease the skin and slow moisture loss.
