Walnut Leaf Extract
Extract from leaves of the walnut tree. It is used for its astringent and conditioning properties in skincare products to give skin a luxurious, silky feel.
Watsu
A form of body massage performed while lying in warm water. The receiver of Watsu treatment is continuously supported by the massage therapist while he or she rocks and gently stretches the body. Because it is performed in the water, the body is free to be manipulated and stretched in ways that would otherwise be impossible.
Wheat Germ Oil
Rich in Vitamin E, used for its antioxidant effects on free radicals in the skin, it is a natural preservative and also contains Vitamin A and D. Wheat germ oil is used to fight scar tissue, stretch marks, and for dry rough skin. It leaves the skin very smooth while nourishing and helping heal the skin.
Whitehead
Also known as a closed comedone. A collection of sebum and keratin that plugs the opening of the skin pore and imbeds itself in the follicular canal under the skin so that it looks like a raised, white bump.
Wild Yam
Herbal product believed to be helpful to the liver and endocrine system. It regulates the female system, particularly during menstrual distress and menopause. It is also used in infertility treatment.
Wild Yam Extract
Extract found to have antioxidant properties and raise HDL, the “good” cholesterol in elderly adults.
Willow Bark Extract
A source of salicin, the chemical that led to the introduction of aspirin, wild bark extract is an anti-inflammatory agent delivered to the skin cells in liposomes that enhance penetration through the epidermis. It is an ingredient in acne treatment products.
Witch Hazel
A common household ingredient. The astringent and anti-inflammatory actions of this herb can be used to help stop bleeding, both internally and externally and is useful in the easing of hemorrhoids. Witch Hazel is also used to treat bruises, inflamed swellings, control diarrhea, and varicose veins.
