Get the Look: Kate Mara’s Sleek Pony

When it comes to cool girls who rule the red carpet, Kate Mara is way up there. She’s constantly switching up her look up, and pulling it all off effortlessly. We’re especially fond of the many different ways she wears her medium length hair, and her look at the Tony Awards last night has immediately jumped to the top of our must-try summer hairstyles list. Inspired by Mara’s bad-ass Dolce & Gabbana minidress, hairstylist Peter Butler opted for a sleek low pony that flattered the dress’ crew neckline and padded shoulders. Here’s how you can get the look.

“I started by blowing out her hair using Leonor Greyl Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice,” said Butler. “This product is fantastic for fine, color treated hair.”

    Boar Bristle Brush

"I used a Mason Pearson brush for the blow dry (the boar bristles help add shine) and then used a two-inch barrel curling iron to create height in the front,” he said. “I set two curls – one on the hairline and another right behind it. This gave the lift she needs to create the height off of her face.”

    Oil Treatment

"Next, I combed the hair back into a ponytail and tied off with a bungee elastic – the ponytail is a cooler and easier look than a knot or bun,” he added. For sleekness, Butler used Moroccanoil Treatment Light, an argan oil-infused conditioning treatment that leaves hair super shiny (a much better option than crunchy gel).
