Get the Look: Keira Knightley’s Perfectly Executed Cat Eye

While cat eye liner is one of the most universally flattering makeup looks to wear, it’s not the easiest one to master, even for pros. That’s why we love to hear exactly how artists execute the feline flick on their famous clients. Last night at the NYC premiere of The Imitation Game, Keira Knightley turned up in the most perfect black liner and pink lip combo, courtesy of makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua. “Since the dress was on the romantic side, we agreed to create a graphic, exaggerated cat-eye, which would complement her overall look and give it some edge,” Bua said. Here, she breaks down the steps to creating the look — and explains why you should always have makeup remover at the ready.

“To begin the cat-eye, I started with a well sharpened Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense. Makeup Remover

“I used Chanel Gentle Biphase Eye Makeup Remover on a cotton swab to clean up the edges of the eyeliner when needed. Once I was happy with the shape, I blended the edges on the inner part of the wedge towards the center of the eye to create a softness.”
    $34

    Eyeshadow

“Using Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Tissé Camelia, I set the liner with the dark burgundy-espresso toned shadow. Using a flat fluffy brush, I blended the inner edge of the wedge with the medium shimmery smoky taupe tone from the Quad, fading it into the pearly camellia tone on the lid. I then used the soft shimmery taupe grey shadow from the Quad in the contour of the crease as well as on the lower lash line to round out the eyes. I finished by blending and softening the edges of this graphic look to keep the eyes pretty and graded.”
