A Complexion Necessity: Now Portable

By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / January 30, 2014

Ever since the Great Eye Shadow Disaster of 2006 (don’t ask), I know better than to carry loose powder anything in my purse. The inevitable shimmer explosion just isn’t worth the risk, so I’ll make do with blotting papers and whichever random products I have on my desk for any mid-afternoon makeup emergencies (surprise happy hour, unmissable selfie photo op, etc.).

But Make Up For Ever has just made on-the-go touchups easier with its new HD Pressed Powder ($36), a new compact version of its bestselling favorite HD Microfinish Powder. Like the original, the new powder gives skin a smooth, soft-focus finish that blurs fine lines and pores and acts as the ultimate secret weapon against even the most paparazzi-worthy HD zoom lens.

So where has this pressed version been all our lives? Apparently it was something of a technical challenge to create. Since the original loose powder version is made of 100 percent silica spherical microparticles, it couldn’t be pressed into a compact. The ingredients list on the new version is slightly different, but its ultralight, shine-busting texture is the same. I’ve already found a space for it in my favorite black leather bucket bag.

Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder ($36) and Kabuki Brush #124 ($52) are available now at Sephora and Make Up For Ever boutiques.
