The Modern, Minimal Cool Girl Walks at Altuzarra - NYFW Fall 2012
The cast of It-girl models at Altuzarra didn't need much beauty prep to look gorgeous, it's true. So lead hair stylist Paul Hanlon for Fekkai created a “skinny” style meant to look “a few days old, a bit languid” and like a modern day “girl on the street.” He explained, “There’s a lot going on with the clothes so we didn’t want the hair to have a reference - it could have made it too costume-y.” A hidden braid on the underside of the hair helped thin out the shape. Paul used Fekkai Coiff Perfecteur Anti-Frizz Silkening Creme on damp hair to give the effect of oil on the roots, and spritzed Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray on the mid-lengths and ends before letting the hair dry naturally. He also used a small amount of Magnifique Ultra-Light Finishing Creme on the ends to make it “a bit more strand-y.”
“Punk, grunge, couture - you put them in a shaker and you have the look today,” Tom Pecheux for MAC said of the “minimal but powerful” makeup look he created for the show. Over a base of MAC Oil Control Lotion, he applied concealer but no foundation, and left brows, cheeks, lips and lashes bare. The focus was a cool double line on lids, created by drawing Fluidline in Blacktrack along the top lashline (“no wing because we don’t want to be retro,” Tom explained) and adding a second line above the first, extending from the inner corner near the nose outward. Also on the inner corner, Tom used Blue Brown Pigment to create an almost iridescent accent, “a very metallic green/blue/brown, like a scarab.”
