Fragrance Gems: Sparkle This Season with 4 Jewel-Inspired Scents
The ability to make scents “sparkle” is one of modern perfumery’s greatest olfactory illusions. This season, a new crop of fragrances is incorporating these effervescent accords into juices inspired by gemstones, all designed to catch the spring and summer sunlight like a shimmering jewel.
1. Bulgari Omnia Coral
The latest, summery addition to Bvlgari's gem-inspired Omnia collection is meant to evoke "the noble and rare red coral gemstone," according to perfumer Alberto Morillas. "I imagined a voluptuous, natural scent created around the hibiscus flower and the overflowing sensation of juicy fruits." The composition is made up of notes of bergamot, goji berries, hibiscus petals, water lily, pomegranate, cedar and musk.
$47 (.8 oz), $64 (1.3 oz) or $80 (2.2 oz) at macys.com.
2. Versace Yellow Diamond
The third scent in a series that includes Bright Crystal and Crystal Noir, this EDT features notes of citron, pear sorbet, sparkling bergamot, neroli, orange blossom, freesia, mimosa, nymphea, ambery woods and musk. The effect? A floral that’s as multifaceted as its namesake stone.
$67 (1.7 oz) or $88 (3 oz) at nordstrom.com.
3. David Yurman Summer Essence
This limited-edition fresh floral eau de toilette inspired by amethyst features notes of nashi pear, peach nectar, apple blossom, white muguet, hyacinth and orchid petals.
$85 (3.4 oz) at davidyurman.com.
4. Aura by Swarovski
Many new fragrances are eschewing the traditional pyramid model, and Swarovski's first-ever scent is one of them. Instead of a top-middle-base structure, perfumers Jean-Pierre Bethouart and Olivier Cresp have expressed Aura as a "prism of energy" with amber, benzoin and white musk at its heart. From the heart emanate "rays" of fruity lychee, floral tuberose and spicy pink pepper.
$65 (1 oz), $80 (1.7 oz) or $100 (2.6 oz) at Swarovski boutiques.
