This New Nail Lacquer Line from Berlin is a Real Treat

By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / March 28, 2014

Seeing as modern nail polish was adapted from car paint, it makes a certain  kind of sense that my new favorite lacquer line hails from Germany. Berlin-based Treat Collection is brand new to the U.S., and judging by its 54 glamorous shades and incredible formulas, the brand is about to become as ubiquitous at nail salons here as BMWs are on the road.

Currently the polishes are stocked at hip LA nail salon Olive & June and online retailer Nailbox, and are also available via Treat Collection’s website. Founder Daniela Mellis, a Berlin native, was inspired by her home city’s vibrant culture with its art and design influences, all infused with a bit of Hollywood glamour (she splits her time between Berlin and LA). In creating the line, Mellis tells us the polishes’ even, non-streaky formula was a priority. You guys, it’s really nice — and I can say that for all 10 of the shades that I tested on each of my fingers.

There isn’t a dud color in the bunch, but some standouts include Goddess, a bright orange-red that will look hot with a bikini come summer; Smokey Nail, a shimmer flecked semi-transparent black; and Mixed Message, a khaki gold metallic. Meanwhile, the heavy glass, gold accented bottles with their ‘70s glam logo are like something you’d find on Elvira Hancock’s vanity table. The lacquers, which retail for $18 each, are also 5-free. Get into them now; like many things from Berlin, it’s only a matter of time before the cool kids catch on.
