Golden Globes 2015: Our Biggest Beauty Hits and Misses Beauty Blitz
If you care about hair and makeup like we do, then the Golden Globes are your Superbowl. The red carpet has all the highs, lows and upsets of a thrilling game, and in the end, the clear winners emerge. So who killed it on the beauty front this year? We’ve rounded up the most gorgeous hits — and most unfortunate misses — from award season’s big kickoff.

Epic Updos Beauty Blitz
Emily Blunt looked like a real-life Grecian goddess in her white Michael Kors gown and braided halo. Kate Beckinsale’s outdated updo, on the other hand, made her look like a prom queen.

Turn on the Brights Beauty Blitz
With the way she wears color, it’s no wonder Lupita Nyong’o scored a Lancôme contract. Could anyone else pull off purple eye shadow and a red lip simultaneously? We were less impressed with Claire Danes’ iridescent blue lids, which felt a tad too costume-y when paired with her feather-adorned dress.

Best and Worst Bangs Beauty Blitz
There isn’t a photo that will do Dakota Johnson’s bangs enough justice. The way they whisked around while she strutted on the red carpet was seamless (props to Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend, who coiffed the actress for the red carpet). Amanda Peet’s fringe was just too short and choppy to compare.

Hair Color Risks Beauty Blitz
Zosia Mamet has been making us want to go gray for a while now, but the way the hue shimmered on the red carpet took our love to another level. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for Taryn Manning’s Cruella de Ville contrast.

To Chop or Not? Beauty Blitz
After seeing Sienna Miller’s effortlessly textured bob (styled by Jenny Cho, who used Suave Professionals Refresh & Revive Dry Shampoo to break up her waves), we almost made an appointment to chop our hair into an exact copy of her style. But then Jessica Chastain’s long, cascading waves made us want to pop a Viviscal and grow it all out. Decisions, decisions.

Best Use of a Flat Iron Beauty Blitz
We’ve grown to love Lorde’s signature curls, but her sleek, side-parted ponytail (with shine courtesy of hair stylist Gavin Harwin and plenty of Wella Professionals LuxeOil Elixir) was the perfect masculine complement to her cool-girl suit. Uzo Aduba’s slicked back style gave her glamour to spare. But Katie Holmes’ extra-long ponytail, styled by DJ Quintero (who used Alterna Haircare Caviar Perfect Iron Spray and a thin Sedu Revolution Diamond flatiron), was our favorite sleek look of the night.

Hair Accessories Beauty Blitz
Emma Stone may have recycled her cool, minimalist clip from an earlier look, but we still love it just as much as the first time we saw it. From the neck up, Keira Knightley was perfection, though we’re not sure her pretty feather accessory cancels out all those ruffles. Salma Hayek’s hair flower, on the other hand, just felt distracting — and made her white gown look overly bridal.Photo of Keira via @benskervin on Instagram; photo of Emma by @mararoszak on Instagram.Photo by: Getty Images -
Retro Locks Beauty Blitz
Paired with her sultry smokies, Allison Williams’ asymmetrical take on Old Hollywood waves (created by Wella Professionals stylist Renato Campora) made hot rollers look, well...hot. But Lana del Rey’s voluminous, ‘60s-inspired hair made her look older than her years (that brown lipstick didn’t help, either).

Most Predictable, Two Ways Beauty Blitz
At this point, we’d be thoroughly disappointed to see Jennifer Lopez turn up in anything besides her signature bombshell hair, glowing golden skin and body-baring dress. But we do wish Amy Adams would venture beyond her pretty-but-safe comfort zone. How about some statement liner to play up those baby blue eyes?

No-Show Nails Beauty Blitz
Were Globes first-timer Amal Clooney’s white gloves a savvy attempt to avoid the mani cam? (Seeing as we filter our own nail selfies, we can’t say we blame her.) Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon’s floor-skimming gown may have been similarly strategic. She admitted on the red carpet that all the walking she did for Wild caused her to lose a few toenails.Photo by: Getty Images -
Unexpected Statement Feature Beauty Blitz
While most stars played up their liner and lips, a couple chose to highlight less typical features. Anna Kendrick accented her look with shimmery tear ducts, while Taylor Schilling darkened her brows, leaving her lids mostly bare. Her arches were the perfect complement to her Nars Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, which was expertly applied by makeup artist Tina Turnbow.

Fuzzy Was He Beauty Blitz
Prince’s appearance in full, glorious Afro was a highlight of the show (we audibly squealed). Meanwhile, Matthew McConaughey wore the ‘fro on his face — a low point for sure.
