The Alexander Wang Girl Knows What She Likes - NYFW Spring 2012

"Alex is very true to himself," said Redken Creative Consultant Guido when asked about the beauty inspiration behind the designer's Spring 2012 show. "It's a true Alexander Wang aesthetic, very cool, downtown kind of girl."

Guido created "wet-looking hair that isn't actually wet" to complement Wang's motocross-inspired collection. "How chic is that? To be wearing these fabulous clothes and have this easy hair…it's the ultimate coolness," he said. To mimic the sopping wet effect, Guido saturated hair with Redken Full Frame 07 Mousse  and used a Sultra Bombshell curling iron to create a "slight bend" in the hair. He added shine with Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Serum and the company's new All Soft Argan 6 Oil. On some girls, extensions plumped up the hair to keep it looking full, not "spindly."

Diane Kendal stuck with the "urban, '90s" theme by creating a minimal - yet edgy - makeup look. Here, it was all about technique: after applying MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder to the top and bottom lash lines, Diane used a cotton swab dipped in moisturizer (Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15) to remove some of the liner on the lower lashes. Then she added more Smolder Eye Kohl back below the eye, along with Black Cremestick Liner on the upper lashline. The result? A raw, lived-in look - like only the ultimate cool girl could pull off.
