Light a Candle for Clean Water
We love Aveda for its aromatherapeutic scents and natural product formulations, but the brand’s commitment to the planet doesn’t end with its ingredients. Each year, in honor of Earth Month, the limited-edition Light the Way Candle raises funds for clean water projects around the world (the brand has contributed over $38 million to clean water causes since 2007). This year’s candle just launched, and its new scent as well as its mission make it a worthy purchase for spring.
One hundred percent of the Light the Way candle’s $12 price goes toward Global Greengrants Fund, a non-profit that channels grants to environmentally focused grassroots groups around the world. To put it in perspective, that $12 can provide a year’s worth of clean drinking water for a person living in Madagascar. The artwork on this year’s packaging was created by children living in that country’s Manakara region, where Earth Month funds were used to bring drinkable water to its residents. Pretty great, right?
Everything about the candle itself is earth-friendly, too. Its glass canister is made from reclaimed bottles and the box it comes in is 90 percent post-consumer recycled paperboard. The candle is made from naturally-derived soy and plant waxes and is scented with certified organic essential oils — a spicy blend of vanilla, cinnamon and ylang ylang. Light one up and make a difference this April.
