Alexander Wang Debuts His First Fragrance for Balenciaga
By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / June 6, 2014
Alexander Wang, who was named Balenciaga creative director in December 2012, continues to make his mark on the brand — and now, he's doing it with scent. WWD has a first look today at B Balenciaga, a new fragrance from the house and the first under Wang's direction.
The scent, which launches this October, features "strong green notes" with a "darker woody flair": top notes of lily of the valley bell, violet green leaves accord and green edamame accord; heart notes of iris root and cedarwood; and base notes of ambrette seeds and cashmeran wood.
Even more unique is the bottle, which is made of crackled glass with an arch cutout cap — both motifs inspired by the house's design signatures.

"Designing fragrances and designing clothes and accessories are both emotional," Wang tells WWD. "But fragrance is much more scientific, while in bags, shoes and clothes, there are a lot of tech parameters. With fragrance, it’s a whole different ball game. I’m always up for a creative challenge, though — I love to explore and dig up why something has to work the way it does.” With any luck, the new scent will be as covetable as those $2,000 bags — and thankfully, a lot more accessible.
