How to Create the Sexiest Boho Beach Hair from Miami Swim Week

By Klaudia Tirico / July 21, 2015

When swimsuit designers present their upcoming collections at Miami Swim Week, it’s kind of a tease because we can’t get our hands on all the bikinis until next summer. #sadfaceemoji. But the best thing about beauty is that we can recreate the gorgeous hair and makeup looks from the runway as soon as we see them. So when we laid eyes on the glorious boho beach hair from Tori Praver’s Miami Swim 2016 Resort presentation, we simply had to have it for our next pool party. Lucky for us, hairstylist Timothy Silmon for KEVIN.MURPHY shared his tricks of the trade to recreate the look at home.

“Tori and I wanted all of the models to have a very natural looking beach wave,” said Silmon. “The inspiration was waking up with bed head after a big night out and heading straight to the beach. The salt from the surf would create separation to the ends for a look that’s a bit grungy and a bit boho.”

To get the look, Silmon started by prepping the hair with KEVIN.MURPHY HAIR.RESORT, a texturizing cream that mimics the effects ocean salt has on hair. Next, he sprayed the hair with HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY before wrapping sections around a 1 1/4 inch curling iron.

HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY is my favorite product because it works well with a blow dryer, curling iron or when hair dries naturally – it’s so versatile. The product has added heat protection and UV protection,” he added. “We twisted the hair as we wrapped around the curling iron to create more of a wave than curl. The twisting stretched the hair to a much longer, loose wave-like shape.”

The coolest part were the various-sized braids scattered throughout the hair. Each one was tied with gold thread and fawn leather for a little extra edge. Excuse us while we run to our nearest craft store for a lifetime supply of hair tinsel.

For control and separation, Silmon applied EASY.RIDER anti-frizz cream. It provided an effortless finish without weighing down the hair or making it greasy. He followed with POWDER.PUFF on the braids and roots to leave a matte texture for a bed head look.

Lastly, he sprayed some SHIMMER.SHINE to “create a smooth, shimmer-y center part thanks to the product’s tiny gold flecks that reflect light.” The product also protects the hair from UV rays – perfect for a day out in the sun.

Voilà! The most perfect boho beach hair we’ve ever seen.
