Braided Textured at Christian Siriano - NYFW Fall 2011
Usually Christian Siriano has theatrical hair and makeup to complement his fierce clothes - like the tribal influence for Spring 2011 or retro glam for Fall 2010. But this season he's letting the garments do the talking which means the beauty look is all too simple. While the makeup is like practically going au naturel, I was inspired by the textured waves in the hair.
Hair: Antoinette Beenders for Aveda
"The hair is inspired by the black orchid print that Christian's doing for his collection," Antoinette said. "He wants it very natural and organic - not too done. So what were doing is just creating texture by braiding the hair."
The dry hair was divided of into three sections and simply braided. After spraying the braids with Aveda Control Force, Antoinette then clamped the hair with a flat iron to heat the hair and then sprayed more Control Force. To make sure they get looser waves, she pulled the braid to make it wide and clamped it again
with the flat iron.
"When they get dressed, I'll pull the braids out and that's it," Antoinette explained. "I'll run my fingers through it and have a bit of a wave, so it's like a sleek silhouette with a center part."
Makeup: Polly Osmond for MAC
"Christians clothes are very flamboyant, there's a lot of black," Polly said. "That kind of just takes center stage rather than big hair and big makeup."
So the practically no-makeup look was all about great skin. The models didn't have foundation - only a little in spots where it was needed. There was eye gloss on the lids for a little highlight and was used on the cheekbones as well. A touch of mascara to keep them from looking too washed out and big Brooke Shields-like eyebrows.
