Candice Swanepoel channels Marilyn Monroe in a new Max Factor ad.
Remember Max Factor makeup? While it’s not sold in the U.S. anymore, the P&G-owned drugstore line lives on in Europe, and continues to look toward vintage screen sirens as inspiration for its products. In the brand’s latest campaign, model Candice Swanepoel trades her usual beach bombshell look for a retro cat eye, red lips and platinum curls à la Marilyn Monroe. It’s a pretty striking impersonation, right down to the beauty mark on Swanepoel’s cheek.
The transformation came at the hands of makeup artist Pat McGrath, who said, “Marilyn made the sultry red lip, creamy skin and dramatically lined eyes the most famous beauty look of the Forties and it's a look that continues to dominate the beauty and fashion industry. It is the ultimate look that defines glamour — nothing else compares.” Should you find yourself on the other side of the Atlantic anytime soon, that Marilyn-inspired lipstick shade, for the record, is called Ruby Tuesday.
