A Calm Before The Storm at Dior’s SS15 Haute Couture Show
By Klaudia Tirico / January 27, 2015
It may be hard to think about spring with a foot of snow on the ground, but if you’re stuck inside, allow us to give you something to daydream about. At Dior’s Spring 2015 Haute Couture show yesterday, makeup artist Peter Philips ditched his eyeliner strips and opted for an ethereal eyeshadow look instead. Taking inspiration from designer Raf Simons’ psychedelic creations, Philips wanted the makeup to be soft and angelic – a cool contrast to Guido Palau’s edgy, harness-like ponytails.
"I wanted to create makeup that gives a sense of fluidity, clarity and appeasement,” said Philips. “Like a calm moment, a pause in the midst of a collection that displays an inspirational mix, rich with colors and materials."
For the eyes, it was all about “an airy twist on a cut crease.” He used the new-for-March Dior Eye Reviver Illuminating Neutrals Eye Palette to “subtly shade” the eyes. “The shape is neither too sharp nor too rounded,” he added. “The line rises from the inner corner of the eye then flares out gently towards the temple to open up the eyes. The lashes are simply curled and the eyebrows are also gently highlighted."
But it was the flawless complexion that really made the soft eyeshadow stand out. Philips relied on Diorskin Nude Air Ultra-Fluid Sérum Foundation for “makeup that is light and transparent” in “a spirit of harmony and purity.” He finished with a highlight on the cheekbone using Dior’s Spring 2015 Kingdom of Colors Diorblush in Peach Splendor (out now). The softness continued with a swipe of Dior Addict Lip Maximizer, a sheer pink lip plumper, on the pout, and a coat of Dior Vernis in Muguet, a ballerina pink, on the nails.
If this beautiful look doesn't make you want to fast-forward to spring, we don't know what will.
