Forget the perfect dress. Our holiday party look is all about a stand-out hairstyle that shows off our ear bling. Because what’s the point of wearing earrings when your hair covers them up? Ever since ear jackets (earrings with decorative backs, also known as front-back earrings), crawlers (a bar or cuff that “crawls” up your ear) and no-pierce cuffs became a thing, we’ve ditched basic studs and hoops for these new styles. Celebrities like Jessica Alba and Anna Kendrick are already in on the trend, and we’ve got the style how-tos and the earrings to pair with them, all right here.

Reese’s Femme Fatale Waves + Noir Ear Crawler Klaudia Tirico

Hairstylist Giannandrea was responsible for Witherspoon’s “femme fatale” hair style. To get the look, prep wet hair with Macadamia Foaming Volumizer ($25), create a deep side part and blow dry in large sections. Then, using a one-inch curling iron, wave the front part of your hair. Work your way down by creating tighter waves in the front and looser ones in the back. Brush them out and run a dime-sized amount of Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment ($23.99) throughout the lengths of the hair to add shine and definition. Finish off with Control Working Hairspray ($23). -

To achieve Hough’s sexy slick back, hairstylist Riawna Capri prepped hair with a mix of Unite Lazer Straight ($26.25) and Elevate Mousse ($29) to tame flyaways and relax her hair. Then, she combed the hair back tight into place and locked it in using Unite Session-Max Hairspray ($29.95). She added volume with Expanda Dust ($26.35) and finished it all off with a little Conundrum Paste ($27.50) and lots of Session-Max Hairspray to make sure it stayed put all night. -
Anna’s Middle Part + Pearl Cuff Klaudia Tirico
With her hair parted down the middle and tucked behind her ears, Anna Kendrick looked classy and on-trend (this hairstyle was huge on the spring runways). But the piece de resistance is the cool pearl ear cuff crawling up her left lobe. To balance it out, she added a small pyramid stud to her other ear. For the premiere of Into the Woods, hairstylist Matthew Monzon focused on the three S’s for Kenrick’s look: “Sleek, shiny and simple.” He started by applying John Frieda Luxurious Volume Building Mousse ($28) “to ensure the look was sleek, but not flat.” After blow drying her hair with a flat brush, he created a center part and ran a ghd Gold Professional flat iron ($225) through the entire head. “We wanted to be able to see the amazing Paige Novick earrings she was wearing, so I pulled the sides back and pinned the hair so it would stay back behind the ears and off the face,” he said. “This is a quick and easy technique that gives the look a little something extra!” Monzon finished it off with Davines This Is A Strong Hairspray ($29). -

Music festivals were the inspiration behind Jessica Alba’s ponytail, created by hair stylist Rebekah Forecast. She began by applying a volumizing spray (Try Phyto Phytovolume Actif Volumizing Spray, $29) to the root for texture and volume. When the hair was dry, she sprayed dry shampoo (Try R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo, $29) all over “to give a second day feel.” She threw the hair up into a high ponytail, and, once secured, she sprayed a bit of thermal spray (try Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Breakage Thermal Protectant Spray, $25). Using a flat iron, she created irregular waves throughout the pony. “The spray gave the hair great hold, as I knew she was going to be outside all day and touch ups would not be possible,” she said. -

Collins’ go-to stylist Mara Roszak began by applying L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Volume Inject Mousse ($4.99) to damp hair and blow drying it straight with a round brush. Next, she set the hair in pin curls and spritzed with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray ($14.99). Once the hair was set, Roszak used a 1 ¼" curling iron to curl the ends under and added shine with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek It Strand Smoother Serum-Spray ($3.99) at the very end. “The shine was the key element in creating the architectural shape into the hair,” she said. -
Kate’s Textured Pony + Chain Earrings Klaudia Tirico

“We went for an understated hairstyle,” said hairstylist Bridget Brager. “The dress and jewels were such a statement and so beautiful that I wanted to keep on the cool side with a textured pony. She was going to a cocktail party after all!" Brager started by spritzing some O&M Atonic Thickening Spray ($25.95) on Bosworth’s damp hair. To get a natural texture, she used an old '90s technique. “I dried her hair so as much natural texture as possible would come out — a lot of scrunching the hair up and then over directing the hair from side to side.” After curling a few pieces horizontally, she sprayed Bumble and bumble City Swept Finish ($29), secured the ponytail with a bungee “just under the crown of her head” and wrapped a piece of hair around the elastic. Finally, she gave it a light spray of L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray ($14.99).
