Any old bun wouldn’t do for Claire Danes in her red Givenchy gown. After texturizing her hair Leonor Greyl Laque Souple, stylist Peter Butler created her updo by winding a fishtail braid into a chignon. On the other end of the spectrum, Laura Prepon’s awkwardly placed side bun was a crime against style.

Lena Dunham didn’t hold back when it came to talking about her new hair color. “It is not a wig. I bleached it last week after I finished the show. I always have kind of a bad hairstyle as Hannah so it’s always nice to do something, lop it off, that shows me I’m a real woman...She cuts her own bangs like Angelina Jolie in Girl Interrupted, and it’s problematic.”

Uzo Aduba, sans Bantu knots and crazy eyes, made a glamorous entrance on the red carpet with a soft bun by hairstylist Jamika Wilson for Motions. And with her tattoos and short haircut (styled by Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend), Lena Headey is less queen of mean from Game of Thrones and more real life cool girl.

Can we get a razor in here? Jon Hamm’s salt-and-pepper beard added about 30 years to his look, while Bryan Cranston’s skinny moustache totally creeped us out.

We like to call this: when bad bangs happen to good people. Although she was glowing, Amanda Peet’s short, piecey bangs failed to live up to the rest of her baby bump debut look. Another miss: January Jones’ flat fringe just couldn’t compete with her pretty red lip. 

We were hypnotized by Kerry Washington’s iridescent blue statement shadow, which shimmered like a bird’s feather under the lights. But while Dasha Polanco’s glamorous look was a world away from the bare face and jumpsuit she spots on OITNB, her pastel makeup and bouncy curls made her look a little too much like she was heading to junior prom. 

Minimalism was the manicure M.O. for Zooey Deschanel and Sarah Hyland, who both went the linear route. On Zooey, Tom Bachik for L’Oréal Paris opted for a baby pink base (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in I Pink I’m in Love) with a stripe of electric pink nail art tape about 3/4 of the way down the nail in a horizontal line for clean and traditional nails with a fun, modern twist. Sarah Hyland took to her Instagram to show off her Essie manicure. She rocked a gilded stripe over a nude base with some serious bling.

 

 

Summer may be coming to a close, but Kate Mara and Kristen Wiig are still embracing one of the season’s most popular trends: effortless wavy bobs. Wiig (styled by Suave Professionals Celebrity Stylist Jenny Cho) had some fun with texture, while Mara went for silky loose waves. We can’t decide which one we like better.

Alexandra Daddario and Sofia Vergara stood out among a sea of bold pouts on the red carpet. There’s just something about a perfectly precise red lip that never goes out of style. Makeup artist Lottie turned Daddario into a 1940's movie star using Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Pencil in #8C and Aqua Rouge #8. Vergara, keeping is sassy as usual, chose CoverGirl #507, “a red, a fiery red,” as she told E!

Center parts were a big trend on both the spring and fall 2014 runways. And it’s no surprise that two very stylish ladies rocked it on the Emmys red carpet. Camilla Alvez and Gwen Stefani took center stage (literally) with sleek strands parted down the middle.
