The “Blackened Nude” Lip Will Be Your New Favorite Look This Fall
By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / July 9, 2014
All this week, the Couture shows in Paris have been showing surprisingly wearable beauty looks that are just statement-y enough while still being real world adaptable (silver eyeliner, anyone?). At yesterday’s Giorgio Armani Privé show, the brand’s international makeup artist Linda Cantello continued the theme with a black and white monochromatic look. In her words, “Pale, natural skin, with elongated and blackened eyes give an air of mystery, finished by a transparent blackened nude lip.” And it’s that lip color in particular that’s about to become our late summer/early fall staple.
Cantello created the blackberry-colored stain by mixing Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in shade 201 (a deep rosy nude) with inky eye makeup — the brand’s new-for-fall Eye & Brow Maestro in shade 1 (Jet Black). The color is an easier to pull off spin on the ‘90s-inspired dark lipstick trend we’ve been seeing since last winter, which shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Not as confident in your skills as a mix master as Cantello? A sheer coat of Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey or Fresh Sugar Honey Lip Treatment will give you a similar effect. Just think how perfect it will look with a black silk jumpsuit in late summer.
