How to Create the Perfect Wavy Blowout Kaitlyn Dreyling
Creating that gorgeous salon blowout can easily be achieved at home. We went to the New York's Blowpro Academy, where stylist Jiselle James taught me the basics of signature blowout. Get your hairdryer, nozzle attachment and a large round brush ready and read on to see how you can get the same gorgeous look!

Step 1: Shampoo and condition Kaitlyn Dreyling
The first step is to cleanse your hair with a lightweight shampoo and conditioner, to make sure your hair isn't weighed down with heavy product build up.

Step 2: Heat protection Kaitlyn Dreyling
Spray your wet hair with a heat protectant. Jiselle used Heat Is On ($20), a detangling spray that protects the hair from heat styling to prevent damage and breakage.

Step 3: Comb through Kaitlyn Dreyling
Combing through the hair ensures the protective spray coats each strand and smoothes away any knots.

Step 4: Apply styling aids Kaitlyn Dreyling
The next step is determining what styling products are best for your hair type. Jiselle used the volumizing mousse Body by Blow ($19.75) on me, since I have straight hair that needs an extra boost. But if you have curly or thicker, coarser hair, she recommends Ready Set Blow ($21), which helps accelerate blow drying time.

Step 5: Section your hair Kaitlyn Dreyling
To help make styling easier, separate your hair into six sections - three in the front and three in the back. The front sections should be one on the top of your head with two on the sides. The three back sections start at the crown and go down the back of your head like a mohawk.

Step 6: Blowout the front Kaitlyn Dreyling
Now that your hair is sectioned off, it makes blow drying it out a lot easier! Start with the front, so you can ensure it looks amazing. Using a large round brush - Jiselle recommends a boar bristle brush - blow your hair in a forward direction and wrap it around the brush.

Step 7: Pin curls Kaitlyn Dreyling
Once you blowout each front section, wrap it around your fingers and set with a duck bill clip. The two side sections should be curled down, while the top section should be curled away from your face. This sets your hair for volume and movement.

Step 8: Repeat in the back Kaitlyn Dreyling
After you've finished blowing out and setting the three front sections, blow dry the back sections starting from the bottom up. At the crown make sure to blow the hair backwards in one section to remove any cowlicks. After blowing out each section set into pin curls.

Step 9: Spray your pin curls Kaitlyn Dreyling
Once your whole head is set, spray with a flexible hold hairspray. Jiselle used Blow Out ($19.75), a non-stick hairspray that prevents frizz and flyaways. Let the curls set for a few minutes - or you could do your makeup routine while you let your blowout set.

Step 10: Let down your hair Kaitlyn Dreyling
Tilting your head back, release the pin curls and run your fingers through your hair. If you have any stray flyaways, try using a styling cream or pomade like Mane Tame ($22).

Step 11: Finish your look Kaitlyn Dreyling
For the final touch use a flexible strong hold hairspray like After Blow ($19.75) to hold the look. You could also use a finishing shine spray, if your hair needs a little extra sheen.

Preserving your blowout Kaitlyn Dreyling
Now that you've done all that work, preserve your blowout for a few days by wrapping it into a loose top knot and showering with The Perfect Shower Cap ($18). This keeps humidity out, so you can prolong the life of your blowout. If you need a little refresher, try spraying it with a little Heat Is On and reset with pin curls.
