Ken Paves Launches Luxury Haircare at Walmart

Even if you don’t know anything about the haircare industry, the name Ken Paves is sure to ring a bell. The celebrity hair stylist counts beauties like Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria as long-time clients and friends, and if you watched the Oprah Winfrey Show back in its heyday, you remember Paves’ inspiring makeovers.
Now, Paves has used his 20 years of experience to create a high-end, affordable haircare collection to be sold at Walmart. “My industry prays on women in an effort to buy our goods,” he says. “I decided I wanted to make a change in my career. I wanted to create a range and a voice for real women.”
The collection is inspired by (and named after) Paves’ 2013 book You Are Beautiful and features fancy, color-coded jewel-tone packaging. The formulas are super luxe and made without harsh chemicals, dyes and sulfates. They’re also free of synthetic fragrances, and instead scented with 100 percent essential oils. “The coolest thing about it is that it’s for every texture and type. No one has to go to another aisle because she has curly hair or kinky hair,” he says.
So why Walmart? “I believe that the consumer deserves it. I don’t believe in giving them ‘apple blossom crapola’ thats not good for their hair, kids or anybody. And my family shops at Walmart. Jennifer Lopez dropped me off to my dad at a Walmart in Michigan once. My dad yelled, ‘Jen, do you need anything from Walmart?’”
The 18-product collection includes shampoos, conditioners, a thermal protection spray, relaxing balm, volumizing mousse (David Beckham is a fan) and more for all hair types and lengths. Prices range from $13 to $19. Get them at Walmart and Walmart.com this month.
