Andy Warhol’s Favorite Beauty Product Turns 50
By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / September 17, 2014
Nope, it’s not blue eyeshadow. As it turns out, Andy Warhol was a huge fan of Kiehl’s Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, which the artist would pop in to buy at the apothecary’s flagship on Third Avenue in New York City.
This year the iconic facial treatment is celebrating its 50th birthday with a limited edition bottle that features photographs by Christopher Makos, a friend and frequent collaborator of Warhol’s who shot the iconic artist for portraits throughout the years.
To mark the occasion, Kiehl’s will be hosting an exhibit of Makos’ prints at the flagship store (109 Third Avenue) from September 18-24. The brand will also auction off 100 limited-edition silkscreens and two paintings created by Makos, with proceeds benefitting the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. It all kicks off Thursday at 7 P.M. at a public event featuring free facials, deluxe samples and refreshements — call 212-677-3171 to RSVP. Tell them Andy sent you.
