This New At-Home Hair Color Innovation Changes Everything

By Klaudia Tirico / April 11, 2014

If you use at-home hair color, you probably have a love-hate relationship with boxed dyes. Sure, coloring your own hair is affordable and saves time, but it makes a huge mess in your bathroom. Now thanks to the geniuses at L’Oréal Paris, dying your strands and touching up your roots at home has never (ever!) been easier. Meet Superior Preference Mousse Absolue, the first no-mix, reusable at-home hair color on the market.
The bottle may look like a single canister, but it’s actually two thinner cans held together by the luxe gold packaging. Each can is sealed tight (for freshness) — one filled with the dye, the other with developer. Push the button and the two combine to form of a rich, no-drip mousse. All you have to do is apply it evenly to your hair and roots and massage it in like you would a shampoo. That’s all, folks.
You’ll probably have some product left in the can, but don’t throw it out. Because the two capsules are sealed tightly to maintain color potency until you push the button, you can reuse the leftover dye and developer to touch up roots or, if you have enough left over, color your hair again when the time comes.
Superior Preference Mousse Absolue features a top-notch formula packed with UV filters, vitamin E and conditioning serums — all crucial for maintaining vibrant, healthy-looking hair. It's available in 16 shades curated by L’Oréal Paris Expert Colorist Christophe Robin, who made sure each hue features rich, multi-tonal color with serious shine.
We’re convinced this is the best thing to have happened to at-home hair color in ages. There’s no turning back now. Mousse Absolue is available for $14.99 at drugstores and Ulta now.
