CHI is bringing the touch screen technology of phones, tablets and MP3 players to the salon with its new CHI Touch Dryer ($240). The tool features a 3-inch full-color LCD touch screen display that lets you adjust power and temperature settings by swiping your finger.

As if you needed another reason not to give your preschooler a trendy asymmetrical haircut, an optometrist in Australia was recently quoted in the country’s Daily Telegraph newspaper explaining “emo” bangs that cover one eye can cause vision problems in children younger than seven years.

We’re pretty sure Lady Gaga coined a new term for the fox tail-like, reverse ombre hair color that both she and Gwyneth Paltrow have recently debuted. Unless, of course, she’s planning to become a talking head on a certain conservative news network (that we’d like to see!).

The velvet faux beauty marks models wore on Chanel’s Versailles cruise runway have an intriguing history, we learned this month. Called mouches (French for “flies”), the adhesive patches were a favorite of Marie Antoinette-era society women, who used them to hide smallpox scars.

Rihanna’s excuse for showing up late to this month’s Met Gala? “My nails took forever," the singer told reporters outside. The epic stiletto nails took about two hours to create, celebrity manicurist Gina Eppolito confirmed. (Though Ri-Ri’s post-gala ER visit for “exhaustion” may hold a better clue to explaining her tardy entrance.)

H&M found itself in hot water this month for releasing an ad that shows Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana sporting an unnaturally deep (Photoshopped?) tan. The company later apologized to anti-cancer groups who accused H&M of promoting an unhealthy beauty ideal.

Nars has released a (rather mysterious) teaser video in advance of the company's collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation, launching in October. So you have a few months to ponder the significance of those silver balloons.

Time-strapped New Yorkers, take note: Bliss Spa has debuted QuickBliss, a spa-within-a-spa exclusive to its 49th Street NYC flagship offering express services all under 30 minutes. The treatment menu includes manicures, facials, waxing and more. They even take walk-ins!

Record-Breaking
Ulta Beauty and Lucky magazine set the Guinness World Record for Most Makeovers in 24 Hours on the set of Good Morning America this month. Five Ulta beauty stylists made over a total of 403 people, using 95 lipsticks and lip glosses, 35 blushes and bronzers, 60 eye shadows and 1,500 Q-tips, plus 48 cans of Red Bull that made the feat possible.

Benefit Cosmetics has teamed up with Marvel on a comic that chronicles the adventures of SpyGal, a superhero inspired by the brand’s Porefessional primer, who fights complexion woes with the help of a pore-zapping ray gun.

Tan Defense
Can a spray tan really kill a person? Real estate developer Adam Kaufman, who is currently on trial in Florida for the murder of his 33-year-old wife, Eleanora, is claiming the "spray tan defense": that a violent reaction to chemicals in tanning solution caused his wife to die of asphyxiation. (Prosecutors say Kaufman strangled her.)

Undergarments
Spanx to the extreme? According to the New York Times, Latina women are embracing the hourglass figure by wearing extremely tight girdles designed for post-liposuction patients, called fajas (from the Spanish for "wrap"). A lingerie shop in Jackson Heights, Queens says it sells 4,000 of the undergarments a year!

Vidal Sassoon
The most iconic hair stylist of the 20th century passed away on May 9th. Vidal Sassoon created “wash and wear” hair that freed women from the weekly salon set, helped shape the look of the 1960s with his geometric precision cuts and coined one of the most memorable commercial catch phrases of the ‘80s: “If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.” RIP.
