This New Bodycare Range is All About Getting Buff

By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / January 28, 2014

If you’re the type who considers kale its own essential food group and thinks of a rolled up yoga mat as an outfit accessory, then new bodycare line Mio is about to become as much of a staple as your daily green juice. If the name and punny packaging feel familiar, it’s because the brand in its original incarnation, Mama Mio, has been cornering the niche pregnancy skincare market with cult products like Boob Tube and Tummy Rub Butter since 2006. Now the newest offshoot has just debuted with an 11-piece range of what they’re calling “high intensity bodycare,” all based around the concept of skin fitness — that is, the same sort of glow and firmness that go hand in hand with clocking hours on a spin bike.

The line features a full portfolio of body products that promise to firm, tone, hydrate and energize — just like your thrice-a-week barre class. Its hero product, The Activist Firming Active Body Oil ($48), brings the concept of antioxidant-enriched skincare to the parts below the neck (why should your face have all the fun?) with a fresh-smelling blend of omega-rich oils touted as superfood for your skin. The Workout Wonder Invigorating Muscle Gel ($33) is like a luxe version of Icy Hot that smells minty fresh instead of medicinal; its blend of horse chestnut and horsetail, arnica, chamomile and mint oils helps ease aches and tension. Another product, Liquid Yoga Restorative Bath Soak ($40), contains epsom salts to soothe muscles as a stand-in for downward-facing dog. And in keeping with the health-conscious vibe, the company has a No Nasties policy that means all of its products are free of parabens, petrolatum, phthalates and other sketchy ingredients. We feel fitter already.

Mio products are available at mioskincare.com and Space NK.
