Rita Ora Wore Gold in Her Hair Part for the Met Gala
By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / May 6, 2014
From royal purple lipstick to glittery eye shadow, last night’s Met Gala saw its share of major beauty moments — but Rita Ora’s gilded hair part may have been the most unique.
Hair stylist Chris Appleton for Garnier used a gold leaf strip to accentuate the singer’s side part, after slicking her hair back with Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oil and hairspray. The gold leaf played off the gilded sequins on Ora’s DKNY Atelier gown.
If the look feels familiar, it might be because models at Suno’s Fall 2014 runway show sported similarly shiny metallic parts — courtesy of editorial super-stylist Odile Gilbert and plenty of golden powder eye shadow.
So is a painted part destined to become a bona fide trend? That has yet to be seen, though the look does have a precedent. Married Hindu women have been wearing vermillion sindoor powder on their hairlines for centuries — a ritual that’s as culturally significant as it is striking.
