“The inspiration is ‘colors found in nature,’” Bobbi Brown explained backstage at Rachel Roy’s Fall 2012 presentation. Makeup-wise, this translated to “a beautiful, clean face” with Pretty Pink Powder Blush high on the cheekbones, Latte Creamy Matte Lip Color (new for fall) on lips, eyes enhanced with shades from Bobbi’s Rich Caviar palette (new for holiday 2012) to create a “green with gold flecks,” plus a couple coats of Everything Mascara. “There are a lot of flecks of sparkle, which I really love - it lights up the whole eye,” Bobbi explained. As for the inevitable eye shadow fallout? “There’s always a little bit, and actually, when it’s a gold sparkle I don’t mind the fallout because it looks really pretty. It’s part of the look,” she said.

Nails continued the green theme, as Elle Gerstein for Essie created a “show-stopping” pine shade by layering the brand’s Going Incognito (an emerald shade) over Licorice (a jet black cream) to create a custom color that Rachel Roy herself was sporting, too. Stay tuned: Elle hinted that Essie would be releasing a similar shade for fall.

In the hair corner, Ted Gibson created a “very ‘70s, very sexy” look by flat-ironing hair “within an inch of its life.” Don’t think that means damage, though - Ted used his Build It Blow Drying Agent to volumize and protect strands pre-blowout, and his Tame It Shine Lotion to create “a barrier between the hair and the heat from the iron.” As for all the flat hair looks we’ve seen so far this season? “I think straight hair is where it’s at now,” Ted explained. “I think hair isn’t as romantic at the moment, but it needs to be a little tougher.”
