What You Need Klaudia Tirico
- 7–9 sunflowers (smaller varieties work best)
- 6–10 feet of florist wire
- scissors or garden shears
- 2 feet of ribbon
- a 20- to 24-inch strand of moss-covered wire
-
Step 1: Prep Your Sunflowers Klaudia Tirico
Clip the stems of each sunflower about 1⁄2 inch away from the bloom and cut one piece of florist wire for each flower, approximately 6 inches each. -
Step 2: Add Florist Wire Klaudia Tirico
Feed one piece of florist wire through the stem and center of each bloom, creating a large hook with one end of the wire. -
Step 3: Create a Hook Klaudia Tirico
Feed the florist wire hook through the center of the sunflower. -
Step 4: Pull the Wire Klaudia Tirico
Pull the wire all the way through the stem and bring the two ends of wire together. -
Step 5: Make a Wire Stem Klaudia Tirico
Twist the two ends of florist wire tightly together behind the bloom to create a wire stem that supports the sunflower. -
Step 6: Repeat Klaudia Tirico
Repeat steps two through five until all sunflowers are secured to florist wire stems. -
Step 7: Add Flowers to Moss-Covered Wire Klaudia Tirico
Begin building your crown by placing one sunflower stem against the moss-covered wire, approximately 4 inches from the end. Bend the base of the wire stem up toward the right. -
Step 8: Add the Flowers Klaudia Tirico
Twist the wire stem completely around the moss-covered wire, moving from left to right. -
Step 9: Repeat Klaudia Tirico
Continue adding the sunflowers one by one, twisting the wire stems together and to the right, repeating steps seven and eight for each new bloom. -
Step 10: Make a Half Moon Klaudia Tirico
Once you have added all of the sunflowers to the moss-covered wire, bend it into a half-moon shape to form the crown. -
Step 11: Loop and Twist Klaudia Tirico
Take the end of the moss-covered wire and create a loop at the end of the strand, preparing to twist the leftover piece around itself. -
Step 12: Repeat Klaudia Tirico
Once the moss-covered wire is completely twisted around itself, each side of the crown should have a loop that looks like this. -
Step 13: Prepare the Ribbon Klaudia Tirico
Cut the ribbon into two 1-yard pieces, one for each side of the finished sunflower crown. Fold each 1-yard piece in half, creating a loop. -
Step 14: Secure the Ribbon Klaudia Tirico
Feed the folded ribbon through the moss-covered wire loops and secure with loop knots on both ends. -
Final Klaudia Tirico
Ta da! Your very own sunflower crown for festival season.
