These Fashion Week Throwback Looks Are a Beauty Blast from the Past Klaudia Tirico
New York Fashion Week is basically like a DeLorean that's taking us back in time to relive our favorite beauty trends from the past. Between the crimped ponytails at CG and the spring combs at Helmut Lang, we can't help but want to take a stroll down memory lane and remember these long lost looks and accessories. Which ones do you recall rocking?
Dick Page's "removed, cold and synthetic" makeup featured a heavy, chocolate lined lip that reminded us of the popular ‘90s trend that Posh Spice and Drew Barrymore rocked so well. Page used Shiseido Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil in Brown.
Stop pretending you didn't cover yourself in glitter as a kid (or as a club kid). Everyone did. And, this season, Altuzarra and Lela Rose are bringing it back.
At Altuzarra, Tom Pecheux was inspired by the playful collection, applying gold glitter to models' lids. Over at Lela Rose, the glitter was bumped up a notch and applied on the eyes and temples. Romy Soleimani for Beauty.com even added larger pieces of gold sparkle for the chef Ferran Adrià oysters-inspired look.
Wella Global Creative Director Eugene Souleiman added a "graphic edge" to the rather simple low ponytail look at Helmut Lang by pulling the models' hair back with an old school spring comb. It's time to dig out that Caboodles case in hopes that our spring comb is still in there.
When we watched Sarah Potempa create the awesome top knot faux hawk for the "Boxerinas" at Dannijo, we couldn't help but notice that the accessory she was using looked familiar. Potempa's The Wrap Up was used to connect six ponytails together (two at a time, using a total of three Wrap Ups) and turn them into a messy chignons down the center of the models' heads. It brought us back to the days where we relied on the Hairagami to create updos for our dance recitals.
Look at this image of a model's hair at Herve Leger and tell us you don't immediately think of ‘90s hair mascara. Laurent Philippon for Bumble and bumble actually attached colorful extensions with double sided tape, but the look is still bringing us down memory lane.
If you've ever used White Out to paint your nails in study hall, you'll definitely appreciate the chalky manicures at DKNY. Michelle Saunders used Essie polish in Blanc topped with Matte About You topcoat.
Akemi Tamaribuchi for Kérastase brought us back to a time when our crimper was our BFF. She created these funky, crimped ponytails at CG by making a figure eight section on the rod of a curling iron.
