How to Create This Vertical Half-Moon Manicure

By Margaret Fisher / September 30, 2014

Models rocked metallic nails on the runway everywhere from Badgley Mischka to Creatures of the Wind during the Spring/Summer 2015 shows. Often, the metallics were paired with nude polishes or bare nails to create designs with just the right amount of glitz. I found myself particularly attracted to the nails at Zimmermann, a sort of vertical half-moon design done in gold over bare nails. After seeing the design I had a moment of manicure certainty and knew I had to adapt the look for myself, and of course share the how-to.

Instead of going the negative space route, I started by painting my nails with a nude polish (OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons). Then I took a gold polish (Orly Nail Lacquer in Luxe) and carefully created the curved edge of the vertical half-moon. If you want more control, use a small nail art brush to create the curved line before filling in the rest of the moon.

Achieving runway ready nails is often simpler than you would think, and this look is no exception. With two polishes and one curved brushstroke you can get the perfect fall metallic mani.
