What’s In My Bag: Manicurist Madeline Poole
By Klaudia Tirico / October 13, 2015
Twelve tubes of lipstick? Poetry scribbled on Sephora receipts? Keys to a Harley? You can tell a lot about a person by the contents of her bag. In our What’s in My Bag series, we ask beauty and style insiders to spill the contents of their purses in hopes of finding a few gems.
The Subject
If you’re a nail junkie, you’re probably already stalking Madeline Poole on Instagram (@mpnails). As an editorial manicurist in NYC, Poole’s impeccable work can be seen in Vogue, InStyle, Interview and Wonderland magazines, as well as online destinations like The Coveteur and Refinery29. If that’s not enough, she was also appointed Global Color Ambassador for Sally Hansen, bringing her expertise and epic creativity to the drugstore aisles. She even had a hand in the development of the brand's new app, Mani Match, a virtual nail polish tester that analyzes your skin tone to help you choose a polish that works with it. How she has the time for all of this, we don’t even know. Read on to see what she totes around in her Chloe crossbody.
The Bag
“I’ve been wearing a small, caramel-colored, suede Chloe bag with big gold buttons [1]. It's got a really interesting strap situation, so it lies comfortably and flat along your body. I like the vintage suede vibe but the gold buttons make it more gaudy (in a good way).”
What’s Inside
“I’ve been using this MAC x Proenza lipstick (discontinued) [2] for at least a year. It's a deep purple/burgundy and it gives your lips a stain like you've drank red wine. It has a beautiful case, though it's so old you can hardly tell what it looks like anymore. But the outside is a metallic fade from green to purple. I use Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Oil [3] and mix it with a moisturizer. It has SPF 15 in it, and although it's a blend of oils, it soaks into the skin and doesn't leave a greasy or shiny residue. I'm obsessed with the new Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat [4] in combination with any of the Miracle Gel colors. It's plump and doesn't drag colors or smear nail art. It dries very quickly and very hard and glassy.”
“I have very sensitive eyes so I've got a big collection of sunglasses. My favorites are a really simple and classic pair of navy blue square Celine sunglasses and a 60's rectangular Moscot frame. Then on the more funky side of love the Adam Selman x Le Specs cat eye glasses [5].”
The Quirky and Unexpected
“Always Band-Aids [6]! Whenever I wear anything but sneakers. Which is seldom; I end up hurting my feet from walking around New York. I keep Band-Aids around at all times! And I love to keep the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat [7], it is good to have it whenever you need a quick polish change.”
