We Ask Models: What’s Your Beauty Secret? Beauty Blitz
While being a model has its perks (exotic travel! free clothes!), the job isn’t without occupational hazards: namely, sensitized skin caused by endless makeup changes and torturous hairstyles that leave strands damaged. So we asked 14 beauties backstage at Fashion Week how they stay gorgeous in the face of it all.

“I always make sure - even when I’m so tired and get home at two o’clock in the morning from fittings - that I wash my face. It’s crucial. You have to wash your face every morning, every night, the same set routine. Your skin needs to get used to whatever regimen you’re doing. I use only Mario Badescu products on my face...I use the Acne Facial wash and Special Cucumber toner and moisturizer with SPF. I don’t really do anything special with my hair. I’m always buying different shampoos and conditioners - I have yet to find something I really love.”

“I really thank my mom and my dad because they gave me great skin. For modeling, you’re always doing makeup every day, so when you finish your job you should really be careful to take off everything. I use a lot of cleanser, and second I use a toner, and sometimes I use a serum, then eye cream, face cream. I have so many different products. And if I’m not working, I just keep my face very fresh, don’t do any makeup. Maybe sometimes just put a little bit of mascara, just use a lot of moisturizer, make the skin more fresh. I use a lot of face masks. You know, Asian girls want their skin to be white, so I use a lot of Estée Lauder CyberWhite.”

“I try to, as soon as I’m not working, not put anything on [my skin]. I cleanse my face, I use Dermalogica moisturizer, and a Dermalogica cleanser and Microfoliant. It’s really difficult when you have your hair done like three times a day, and you lose so much of your hair during Fashion Week. I try to put olive oil in, because I have a really dry scalp, so maybe once a month I put a lot of olive oil in it and I sleep with it like that. It’s a really great trick. It gets your hair really nasty the next day, but it gets a lot of moisture and shine back into your hair.”

“I have to say, I’m really lucky with my skin. It doesn’t really react a lot to most things - just once in awhile, a pimple here and there, but we all get them. I really like the Chanel Precision eye makeup remover. I’m pretty relaxed about my hair - if people want to cut it, they can cut it, usually. I think I’m going to grow it out now, so I’m probably going to be a little less relaxed about scissors in the future.” On what she’s doing to fight off an impending cold: “Oysters! Oysters are really good for you. They have so many vitamins, and I love oysters, so I’m going to try to eat a lot of oysters.”

“I remove my makeup before I’m going to sleep, and I use a cream for overnight. I have cream from Olay - it’s for normal skin, nothing special. After washing, I always use conditioner in my hair.”

“Honestly, I drink a ton of water and I don’t use any kind of heavy foundation outside of work. I just make sure I wash and moisturize my face every single day. I use Johnson & Johnson Baby Lotion - it’s perfectly light enough for my face but always gets it fully moisturized. My hair is kind of funny actually - I have a lot of it but it’s kind of thin. I have to wash it every single day but I use a mask instead of conditioner every time.”

“I use Spectro Jel to wash the skin, it’s really good - natural and no smell. It’s good to wash in the morning and at the end of the day. I use Bioderma to remove my makeup - it’s like magic. I always travel with it. It’s good to remove makeup and good in the city to clean off from the subway. I use Morrocanoil for my hair - I love that. I use it after I wash when my hair is still wet and I let it air dry.”

“I get all my products from Avène - I use the toner, creams, mask and scrub. I love it, it keeps my skin perfect. For my hair, I like Kérastase or some Wella. Just shampoo, condition, sometimes a mask to keep it nice.”

“After shows, I have to clean [my skin] very well because there is so much makeup on it. I use Bioderma to take off my makeup. I’m using a really good moisturizer from Chanel - it’s been really working for me. For my hair, I use Kérastase shampoo and conditioner and I also use oil afterwards.”

"Take makeup off before you go to sleep, definitely. Besides that you have to drink enough and eat healthy - that's what keeps my skin in good condition. I don't use creams or anything like it. I use Bioderma, the pink bottle everyone uses. You can only buy it in Paris. I feel like it's the best for my skin to just breathe."

“I only use Kérastase for my hair and only natural skincare for my face. I also like Living Clay, and I put sulfur on spots.”

"I love Bioderma Crealine; it's this remover that's really water-based and very sensitive, and nothing happens to my skin when I use that. I use La Roche Posay cream but only when I remember to use it, which is like once a week. The most important thing for me is Bioderma, the makeup remover, because if I use some harsh wipes, my skin breaks out - it's very sensitive. For my hair, I just leave it alone. When I'm not working, I wash it every third day - just let it be. I'm still looking for my favorite shampoo and conditioner."

“I just use a Neutrogena face wash every day and just a really lightweight moisturizer with a really high SPF. I think it’s important for during the day. I use nothing in my hair but I wash it with drugstore shampoo and conditioner. My favorite is Herbal Essences - not going to lie.”
